Optomap Daytona Enhanced Eye Examination

Optomap® Retinal Screening

In addition to your eye test, we are able to offer Optomap® retinal screening, which takes a closer look at the health of your eye and can be an early detector for several diseases and health concerns that affect the whole body, not just the eyes.

A retinal screening using Optomap® takes seconds and is pain free. Images of your retina will be taken and then examined by your optometrist, and we can keep the images to compare each time you visit us for an eye exam.

Retinal screening has been used for early detection of conditions including strokes, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.

What is Optomap?

Optomap can take an image of up to 200 degrees of the back of your eye, through as small as a 2mm pupil and it captures in 0.25 seconds. It can look at changes on a cellular level which cannot be seen by the naked human eye.

This allows our Optometrist to see much more of the back of the eye than ever before in order to check that everything is healthy.

  • As well as checking your visual health, it can also pick up on some general health conditions too. E.g. Diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, even some types of tumours can present in the eye
  • We can take an auto fluorescence image that looks at what is happening on a cellular level at the back of the eye which cannot be seen with the naked human eye
  • It gives our Optometrist a starting image that they can then compare and refer to time and time again, to look for even the most subtle changes in your eyes, which we might not ordinarily see
  • It has been proven time and time again to not only save peoples sight, but in some cases to save peoples’ lives, as diseases are often detected that could have been missed
